Singapore Maths...

The use of ‘Singapore Maths in school

Singapore developed a new way of teaching maths following their poor performance in international league tables in the early 1980’s. The Singapore Ministry of Education decided to take the best practice research findings from the West and applied them to the classroom with transformational results. Based on recommendations from notable experts such as Jerome Bruner, Richard Skemp, Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Zoltan Deines, Singapore maths is an amalgamation of global ideas delivered as a highly-effective programme of teaching methods and resources.

The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated by Singapore’s position at the top of the international benchmarks and explains why their programme is now used in over 40 countries including the United Kingdom and the United States. The ‘Maths No Problem’ books are one of the Singapore Maths Teaching Resources.

We use the ‘Maths No Problem’ text books and work books in school.

At KS1 the Maths No Problem is used as a basic teaching structure and scheme to support teaching and learning.

At KS2 the scheme is used as a ‘home/school programme to give additional support to identified pupils on a daily basis.

The maths programme is highly effective in helping us to ensure we provide the best learning outcomes for all pupils. Our maths results have remained consistently high over the years and stayed above national average figures.
